Cleaning and maintenance of carbide bits
Carbide drill bits are essential tools in nail technician work, gaining popularity among professionals due to their special properties. However, even the highest-quality tools can become ineffective without proper maintenance.
Why choose a carbide bit?
Carbide drill bits offer several advantages over traditional sanding bands:
- Less heat build-up: Their special material minimizes heat generation during use, making work more comfortable.
- Longer lifespan: With proper maintenance, they can be used for months or even years.
- Etched surface: The grooved surface effectively removes layers of artificial nails and gel polish, while smaller versions are perfect for lifting adhered cuticles.
Avoid improper use! Do not use carbide bits to file rhinestones, beads, opal fragments, or metal decorations, as these can damage the grooves.
Cleaning: essential steps
1. Physical cleaning
Physical cleaning is the first and most crucial step. Dust, skin particles, and material residues can easily accumulate in the grooves of drill bits, hindering their efficiency. For carbide bits, a metal brush is the best option, as its strong bristles deeply clean the grooves without damaging the material.
Important! For diamond and stone bits, avoid using a metal brush, as it may remove the diamond coating. Instead, clean these tools with a firm-bristled nail brush.
2. Disinfection
After physical cleaning, disinfection is the next essential step to ensure the tools remain hygienic and safe for use.
- Spray method: Apply disinfectant spray to the drill bit, ensuring it reaches into the grooves.
- Soaking method: Submerge the bit in disinfectant solution and leave it for the recommended exposure time as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
Attention! Always check whether the disinfectant needs to be rinsed or wiped off, as improper handling may damage the metal bits.
