The nail technician is the best psychologist – How to identify your client's personality type?
Every client is unique, with different needs and preferences. Some are eager to share their secrets, while others enjoy their pampering in peaceful silence.
But how can you connect with them most effectively? Should you encourage them to talk, or is it better to listen quietly? It’s a tricky question, but if you can recognize your client’s personality type, building a connection becomes much easier. There are four basic personality types, derived from two main categories: introverted and extroverted.
The introverted client
When they enter the salon, they greet you quietly and look around cautiously. They make their decisions carefully, so if they’ve booked a manicure with you, you can be sure they’ve thought it through and perhaps even chosen you based on a recommendation. While they may be slow to open up at first, you can encourage conversation with open-ended questions. If they don’t respond much, don’t push the communication; instead, focus entirely on them to make them feel cared for.
The extroverted client
They walk into the salon with a smile and greet you energetically. Confident they’ve come to the right place, they’re happy to have made time for themselves. They enjoy chatting, and if they feel comfortable, they’ll surely praise your work. Open to trying different manicures, they might already be thinking about who they’ll recommend you to. The extroverted client loves having options—let them choose the nails they desire. However, if they seem uncertain, feel free to assist them in making a decision.
Characteristics of the introverted client
- Quiet, slow, and cautious in their speech.
- Moves calmly and thoughtfully upon arrival.
- Conversations may be fragmented, as they take time to reflect on what they hear.
Tip: Give them time to adjust to the salon’s atmosphere. Avoid pressuring them, but if they’re open to talking, guide the conversation wisely. Don’t feel awkward about silence—it can be comforting.
Characteristics of the extroverted client
- Enters the salon as if they’ve known you forever.
- Speaks energetically, asks many questions, and provides long responses.
- Open, but may find silence uncomfortable.
Tip: Encourage them to choose from the available colors, but if they’re unsure, help them decide.
