The nail technician is the best psychologist – How to identify choleric and melancholic clients
Why is it that you instantly connect with some clients, while communicating with others feels more challenging? By understanding the basic traits of different personality types, you’ll find it much easier to work with your clients—even those who may be a bit reserved at first.
In our previous article, we introduced introverted and extroverted personality types, which can be further divided into two subtypes each. This time, we focus on introverts.
Choleric personality
Their element is fire—they are full of energy and self-confidence. Goal-oriented and optimistic, they know exactly what they want, so their presence is felt the moment they enter your salon. They don’t just arrive—they fill the space with their energy. This is the client who comes to you with specific ideas and a clear vision.
This type of client always seeks quick solutions. If they feel their nails need a touch-up, they’ll book an appointment immediately. However, their impatience can be a challenge—they expect instant results and tend to jump from one task to another in all areas of their life. If achieving the perfect manicure requires more time, show them that the final result will be not only beautiful but also long-lasting, as long as they’re patient.
Because of their high self-confidence, they might sometimes try to take control—don’t take it personally. You’re the expert! Calmly and confidently ask them to trust you, and they’re sure to be satisfied with the results. Before the manicure, they’ll appreciate having a variety of colors or designs to choose from. While decisiveness characterizes this personality type, if they seem uncertain, suggest something seasonal. A great option could be the creamy and durable autumn HEMA FREE shades, like HEMA FREE Gel Polish HF031 8ml - Chestnut.
Melancholic personality
Their element is earth, characterized by stability and a desire for security. They are realists and practical individuals who carefully consider their decisions. This is the client who will particularly value long-lasting, high-quality nails.
Initially, they might be a bit distrustful, but if they’re pleased with the results, you can be sure they’ll stay loyal to you. They dislike change, so once they fall in love with your style and work, they won’t go elsewhere. They avoid conflict, so they’re unlikely to be overly critical. They might be quieter at first and take longer to open up.
Melancholic clients enjoy calm, relaxing experiences. Offer them an extended, pampering manicure session using pleasantly scented hand creams, such as lavender (Lavender & Mint Hand Cream and Body Lotion 250ml) or orange oil-infused products. These small thoughtful gestures will help them feel truly comfortable and allow them to relax in your salon.
As mentioned in our previous article, you can read about the traits of introverted and extroverted clients in “The Nail Technician is the Best Psychologist – How to Recognize Your Client’s Personality Type.” In our next blog post, we’ll introduce the two branches of extroverted personality types. Until then, enjoy every moment spent with your clients in your salon!
